real wedding days & tips
Our family absolutely adores Landon and Baylee! We make it a point to have dinner with them once a month. Anyone who knows these two has probably asked the question “When are you guys gonna get married?!”. Well, the proposal has OFFICIALLY happened! Keep reading and you will find out how it happened.
The Lawerences are close friends of our family and we absolutely adore them! I’ll me words short and sweet for this post. They are a part of our community of faith and we hangout with them on a weekly basis. They wanted to get family photos taken before a HUGE adventure that they are taking this summer.
This session is quite possibly my favorite session of all time! Here are 2 reasons why. 1.) Alyssa and Jacob are seriously the most perfect couple ever! They were naturals in front of the camera and their love for one another shines through these photos. 2.) Their photos represent EXACTLY what I want to aim for in every session as far as editing/lighting goes. This year I have been trying to hone in on my “style” and I finally feel like I have it. I am aiming for colorful and rich tones and bright lighting!
Last week our Family traveled to Houston for my youngest brothers graduation. I was hoping to be able to do a session while I was in town and wouldn’t you know it, Angie commented on one of my posts the week before we were leaving and said “If you could come to Houston so we could hire you for a family session, that would be great! 😁”. And just like that, their session was scheduled! I’ve known Angie since high-school and got to meet her husband a few years ago at our friend Cynthia’s wedding. I had not however met little David yet, don’t worry you’ll get to see just how cute he is in the photos below!
I don’t hold mini sessions very often. I usually will do them in the spring near mothers day and again in the fall. I am so thankful that the Campbell family took advantage of this opportunity for a mini session! This was my second time photographing their family, but this time their family had grown by one with the addition of Hudson!
I’ve known The King family for going on 7 years! One of my favorite things about this family is how they interact with each other. They are perfectly comfortable laughing with one another and joking around. Raising teenagers is no easy task, but Bob and Lachelle are doing a phenomenal job raising their 3 boys. It blows my mind to see how much their kids have grown in during the time that I have known them, especially since Ethan and Jarron were in a youth group I led back in the day.
Can I share a heartbreaking moment with you that I have seen play out at many wedding receptions? Allow me to paint a mental picture.
“The lovely couple have landed their top pick for a reception venue. Their theme is “rustic/farmhouse” and their decorations are on point! The caterers are one of the hottest food trucks in town and they are setting up a buffet style spread that is responsible for a room full of watering mouths. One hundred fifty people arrive to welcome the lovely couple and their bridal party as they make their grand entrance. One hour after the grand entrance dinner is still happening and there are one hundred people remaining, Twenty minutes after that, toasts have happened but nothing else. Fifty people remain and thirty-five of those people are family! There are still 2 hours left for your party but aunt Becky and a few cousins are the only ones left on the dance. Seems like this party is, unfortunately, winding down.”
Sadly, I witness scenarios like this enough to write a blog post about it.
Many people don’t realize this, but your engagement session is the best representation of how your photographer experience will go on your wedding day. This is why taking engagement photos of couples whose wedding I am photographing is super important to Lara and I. We are able to get comfortable around one another during this initial shoot and work through some of the jitters that come with being in front of a camera.
This is my 3rd time photographing The Williams Family and I can without a doubt say this is my favorite session with them yet! The first and second sessions we did had more of a “nature” vibe to them. Harmony was feeling a change of scenery this time around and was wanting some Downtown Wichita vibes.
I was looking forward to this session with The Georges for multiple reasons. Reason number one: they are some of our families best friends! We hang out with them every week and our children LOVE their girls. So naturally, I was pretty excited to take pictures of their family for the third time in 2 years! Reason number two…
