A few ago our family went to Houston to visit my family. It was going to be a super short trip (Arriving Friday and leaving Monday) so I wasn’t planning on setting up any hangouts with friends or sessions. I even purposely left my laptop at home so that I would not be tempted to work while we were on “vacation”, even though a 4 day trip with 24+ hours of driving doesn’t sound very relaxing.
Right about now, you might be wondering how I ended up taking photos of The Torres Family during this trip. I’ll have to give you a little back story before I answer that. When I was in high school Cynthia and I became best friends. It’s hard to believe that time was 10 years ago but we have managed to stay in touch. Lara and I even made a trip to Houston from Wichita, KS to attend her wedding to her husband Tino! If we are going to Houston, you can almost guarantee that we will be grabbing dinner with them. Life has changed a ton for Cynthia and Tino over the last year! They have added a beautiful baby boy, Lucas, to their family and have also purchased their first home.
Ironically enough, I have never taken photos of Cynthia and Tino before this session. We have actually tried multiple times on different occasions to make it happen but our schedules never seem to work to make it happen. So, even though I was trying to not work on this super short trip, I figured I would see if we could make photos happen this time for them and I am so glad I did!
We shot at Herman Park in Houston and for those of you who aren’t Houston Natives, this park is always PACKED. especially with photographers. There is a main stretch of the park with a water feature and come concrete columns that photographers seem to flock to for photos and the area is always over-run. When choosing a location, I care way less about the background than I do about the lighting. I’m looking for warm light that is shining through the trees (diffused light). If I can find that during a session, I’m one happy camper. Lara and I broke away from the crowded area and turned to an open part of the park that has these beautiful Spanish Moss Trees. I couldn’t believe that this area wasn’t being utilized for photos. Anyways, I’m so glad we choose this spot!
Cynthia, Tino, Lucas, and Luna did so great during their session! We were able to capture some beautiful images of their little family. This blog post features some of my favorite photos during their session Drop a comment below to let them know how precious their family is!
